Another track from The xx’s highly anticipated new album Coexist

 
There’s an obvious chasm in the song, but the conversation itself feels intense and claustrophobic. The release, then, when the vocals finally tie together (“We used to get closer than this/ Is it something you miss”), is strangely exhilarating. The thrill is emotional and brave– and the band doesn’t milk its payoff, either, as the only crescendo to be found is in a solitary, but slender burst of guitar.
